Der Präsident der New Yorker Juilliard School of Musik, der Komponist William Schuman, sagte nachdem das Juilliard String Quartet 1946 ins Leben gerufen wurde: Und erst der Beethoven. Sie spielen Beethoven ganz anders als er jemals gespielt worden ist. Heute gilt das Juilliard Quartet als eines der größten Streichquartette überhaupt, nicht zuletzt wegen seiner Beethoven-Interpretationen, für die dem Quartett ein Grammy verliehen wurde. 1975 gab das Juilliard String Quartet ein Konzert im Oberbayerischen Pollin, festgehalten auf dieser DVD, und ein einmaliges Dokument für die Halbzeit der Erfolgsgeschichte dieses großartigen Ensembles.
