Recorded 1990 at Münchner Philharmonie am Gasteig & Stiftskirche St. Florian. Sergiu Celibidache is regarded as the greatest Bruckner conductor of our time, Bruckners music being the focus of his work with the Munich Philharmonic. This documentary shows his rehearsing Bruckners Grosse Messe in F minor, from th first choir rehearsal with piano accompaniment onwards. We watch choir, orchestra & soloists gradually forming a harmonious whole, right up to the actual performance. At rehearsals & in conversations, Celibidache describes his relationship to Bruckner & the F-minor Messe, & his ideal of promoting a German orchestral tradition along the lines of Wilhelm Furtwängler.
