Im Sommer 2009 war sämtlichen Programmen das übergreifende Thema der Natur gemein. Auch Gustav Mahler war ein großer Naturliebhaber, und der charismatische Dirigent Abbado begeisterte sein Publikum mit einer unvergleichlichen Interpretation von Mahlers Vierter Sinfonie, deren letzten Satz die Mezzosopranistin Magdalena Kozenain einer gleichsam transzendierenden Weise darbot.
