Im Sommer 2009 war sämtlichen Programmen das übergreifende Thema der Natur gemein. Auch Gustav Mahler war ein großer Naturliebhaber, und der charismatische Dirigent Abbado begeisterte sein Publikum mit einer unvergleichlichen Interpretation von Mahlers Vierter Sinfonie, deren letzten Satz die Mezzosopranistin Magdalena Kozenain einer gleichsam transzendierenden Weise darbot. - perhaps for the last time in Mahlers life. The Adagietto is a revelation, a spiritual oasis. It is not & expression of pain, but rather Mahlers declaration of love to Alma
- a song without words. With the Gewandhaus Orchestra, Chailly gives the piece & unsurpassed intensity of sound & emotional expression. He achieves a compelling arc of tension in which the symphonys unique fascination unfolds.
